ChatGPT Introduces Scheduled Reminders and Recurring ‘Tasks’

Exciting news for ChatGPT users! OpenAI has launched a new beta feature called Tasks, allowing you to schedule reminders and recurring requests with ease. Here’s what you need to know about this handy addition.

  • Schedule Reminders with Ease: Paying users of ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro can now set reminders like “Remind me when my passport expires in six months.” Notifications are sent directly to your enabled platforms.

  • Recurring Requests: Need daily updates or weekly plans? ChatGPT can handle it. For instance, you can request a daily news briefing at 7 a.m. or weekend plans tailored to your location and weather.

  • Web App Features: Manage tasks seamlessly via the dedicated tasks manager tab in the ChatGPT web app. The AI assistant may even suggest tasks based on your conversations.

  • Limitations and Beta Rollout: While ChatGPT can browse the web for scheduled tasks, it doesn’t support continuous searches or automated purchases. This feature is currently in beta and unavailable on the free tier or mobile app.

The new Tasks feature is a step toward more advanced AI capabilities, giving ChatGPT a practical edge over traditional assistants like Siri or Alexa. OpenAI’s focus on refining these functionalities signals exciting developments in agentic AI systems this year.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON IT

Apple Joins the Ultra Accelerator Link Consortium to Advance AI Data Center Technology

Apple has officially joined forces with the Ultra Accelerator Link Consortium (UALink) to pioneer next-gen connectivity standards for AI data centers. This collaboration aims to revolutionize how AI accelerator chips connect and operate in server farms, addressing the growing demands of advanced AI systems.

  • Apple’s Role in UALink: Apple, along with Alibaba and Synopsys, is now on the consortium’s board. The initiative focuses on creating UALink, a connectivity standard for AI accelerator chips, enhancing training, fine-tuning, and running AI models.

  • Expanding AI Capabilities: Apple’s Becky Loop highlighted UALink’s potential to resolve connectivity challenges and expand AI infrastructure, emphasizing Apple’s legacy in driving innovation.

  • Industry-Wide Collaboration: Members of the consortium include Intel, AMD, Google, AWS, Microsoft, and Meta. Nvidia, however, remains absent, likely due to its proprietary NVLink technology.

  • Apple’s AI Infrastructure Push: Apple is reportedly developing a new server chip to boost the efficiency of its AI data centers, further supporting its Apple Intelligence suite.

As the tech industry rallies behind open standards to power next-gen AI, Apple’s participation in UALink is a clear statement of its ambitions in shaping the future of AI data centers. With innovations on the horizon, the stage is set for a new era of collaboration and technological breakthroughs.

Nvidia Backs MetAI in $4M Seed Round

Nvidia is taking a significant step forward in the digital twin and industrial AI space by investing in MetAI, a Taiwanese startup. MetAI specializes in AI-powered digital twins, promising to transform robotics, automation, and manufacturing industries. This seed funding marks Nvidia’s first investment in a Taiwanese startup.

  • Revolutionary Technology:

    • MetAI’s platform quickly converts CAD files into “SimReady” digital twins using AI and 3D technology, significantly reducing simulation setup times from months to minutes.

    • It generates synthetic data within digital twin environments, aiding AI training and validation for physical AI systems like robotics.

  • Strategic Backing:

    • Nvidia led the $4 million seed round, joined by investors like Kenmec Mechanical Engineering, Solomon Technology, and SparkLabs Taiwan.

    • Nvidia’s Omniverse integration with MetAI aims to set a new standard for industrial digital twins and AI training simulations.

  • Market Differentiation:

    • MetAI focuses on creating digital twins tailored to advanced automation, including semiconductor fabs and smart warehouses.

    • Unlike competitors, it emphasizes AI-driven layouts and generative models to bridge the gap between simulation and real-world operations.

MetAI’s collaboration with Nvidia and industry leaders has already yielded measurable results, including a partnership with Kenmec to reduce warehouse simulation times to just 3 minutes. With fresh funding, MetAI plans to:

  • Expand its R&D team.

  • Establish a U.S. office by late 2025 to tap into high-demand markets.

  • Scale its SaaS offerings and provide end-to-end AI-driven solutions.

Biden Opens Federal Land for AI Data Centers

In his last days as President, Joe Biden has made a decisive move to boost AI infrastructure. A new executive order opens up federal land for private AI companies to build data centers—requiring them to match their energy consumption with renewable sources.

  • Leasing Federal Land: AI companies can lease sites from the Department of Defense and Department of Energy to establish data centers but must bear all associated costs.

  • Focus on Renewable Energy: Companies must bring online clean energy resources equal to the power their data centers consume, addressing the growing energy demands of the AI sector.

  • Strengthening AI Leadership: The order aims to reduce dependence on foreign infrastructure, securing the U.S.’s position as a global AI leader.

  • Timely but Uncertain Impact: This initiative aligns with Biden’s broader policies, including tighter AI chip export rules, but its future is uncertain as President-elect Donald Trump is expected to overturn many of Biden’s decisions.

This executive order combines sustainability with technological advancement, setting a precedent for integrating clean energy into AI infrastructure. However, its long-term impact hinges on whether it withstands potential policy reversals in the upcoming administration.
