🔥 Meta’s $65B AI Bet: 1.3M GPUs by Year-End!
Meta is ramping up its AI ambitions with a massive investment in infrastructure. Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that the company plans to significantly increase its capital expenditures in 2025, focusing heavily on AI development and data centers to stay competitive in the booming AI space.
Massive Investment: Meta is set to invest between $60B and $65B in 2025. This surge will primarily fund AI infrastructure and expand the company’s development teams.
AI Infrastructure Boost: The company plans to bring 1 gigawatt of computing power online this year, a staggering amount of energy that could power approximately 750,000 homes. This is a key step in Meta's effort to accelerate AI capabilities and scalability.
GPU Expansion: By the end of the year, Meta aims to have 1.3 million GPUs in its data centers, significantly enhancing the power and speed of its AI model training. This move is designed to support its growing AI workload.
Competitive Race: Meta’s investment comes as competitors like Microsoft are also making massive moves in the AI infrastructure space, with Microsoft committing $80B for their own data center projects. OpenAI’s joint venture, Stargate, is expected to play a huge role in advancing its AI capabilities as well.
Meta’s bold plan to invest heavily in AI infrastructure signals its intention to dominate in the AI race. With powerful GPUs and energy-intensive data centers, the company is positioning itself to not only keep pace with rivals but to potentially lead the charge in AI innovation. This is a clear message that Meta is committed to driving AI forward and maintaining its competitive edge in the tech world.

DeepSeek Disrupts AI Benchmarks and Market Expectations
DeepSeek, a Chinese AI startup, sent shockwaves through global markets with its groundbreaking AI model, challenging assumptions about America's technological dominance and reshaping investor sentiment.
Cost-Efficient AI Model: DeepSeek's model, which runs on less-advanced chips, questions the necessity of high-cost infrastructure and casts doubt on the valuation of companies like Nvidia, whose shares fell over 6% in Germany.
Market Turmoil: Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 3.2%, and S&P 500 futures declined 1.9%. In Europe, tech stocks saw steep losses, with ASML falling over 8%.
Investor Praise & Adoption: Lauded by Marc Andreessen as a breakthrough, DeepSeek’s app topped Apple's App Store, with users praising its transparency.
Global AI Dynamics: The launch highlights China’s AI progress, leveraging open-source technology despite US trade restrictions, challenging the narrative of a technological gap.
DeepSeek’s innovation is a stark reminder of the evolving global AI landscape. As markets adjust to this disruptive entry, questions about the future of tech valuations and AI dominance remain pivotal.
Paul McCartney Urges UK Government to Protect Artists from AI Exploitation
Music legend Paul McCartney is speaking out against proposed UK copyright law changes that would allow tech companies to use online content for AI training without the consent of the original creators.
McCartney’s Call for Action: In a BBC interview, McCartney emphasized the government's duty to protect artists. He urged lawmakers to safeguard the rights of creative minds to ensure they aren't exploited.
AI’s Impact on Musicians: While McCartney is not against AI in music—he even used it to create "the last Beatles record" by enhancing a John Lennon demo—he expressed concerns about the financial risks AI poses to artists. He fears that young musicians could lose ownership of their creations, with anyone able to replicate their work without compensation.
Financial Implications: McCartney pointed out that the profits from music creation should go to the artist, not tech companies benefiting from their work.
As AI becomes an increasingly dominant force in creative industries, McCartney’s call for stronger protection reflects growing concerns over the balance between innovation and artist rights. The UK government will have to address these issues carefully to avoid sidelining creative professionals in favor of tech giants.
Perplexity AI Proposes TikTok Merger with 50% U.S. Stake
Perplexity AI has proposed a merger with ByteDance, creating a new U.S.-based company by merging TikTok U.S. operations with Perplexity AI. This plan aims to address national security concerns while keeping TikTok operational in the U.S.
Creation of NewCo: ByteDance intends to form a holding company, NewCo, combining TikTok’s U.S. operations with Perplexity AI. ByteDance will retain the core TikTok algorithm while selling the U.S. operations to a group of investors.
50% U.S. Government Stake: Under the new proposal, the U.S. government could acquire up to 50% ownership of NewCo following an IPO if the company reaches a valuation of $300 billion. However, the government would not have voting rights or a board seat.
Return of TikTok in the U.S. TikTok services were recently reinstated after President Donald Trump lifted the ban, addressing the national security concerns that had led to TikTok’s U.S. operations being paused. Negotiations regarding TikTok’s future are expected to conclude within 30 days.
This proposal marks a significant shift for TikTok’s U.S. operations. By blending AI with the platform’s popular features and offering the U.S. government a stake, ByteDance and Perplexity AI hope to navigate regulatory challenges and maintain TikTok’s presence in the American market.
