🤖 OpenAI Introduces Deep Research for In-Depth AI-Assisted Analysis
OpenAI has unveiled Deep Research, a new AI-powered tool designed to help users conduct thorough, complex investigations using ChatGPT. This feature aims to support finance, science, policy, and engineering professionals requiring precise, well-documented research.
🔍 Key Features and Availability
Deep Research allows users to analyze information from multiple sources, offering detailed, citation-backed responses.
Initially available for ChatGPT Pro users (100 queries/month), with Plus, Team, and Enterprise support coming soon.
The tool is web-only for now, with mobile and desktop integration planned later this month.
📊 Advanced Capabilities
Uses a specialized version of OpenAI’s o3 model, optimized for web browsing and data analysis.
Can analyze user-uploaded files, generate graphs using Python, and cite sources directly.
Future updates will include embedded images, data visualizations, and integration with subscription-based data sources.
⚠️ Challenges and Accuracy Concerns
Despite its improvements, AI remains prone to errors, misinterpretations, and citation issues.
OpenAI emphasizes transparency, providing documented outputs with clear citations to enhance reliability.
The model scored 26.6% on Humanity’s Last Exam, outperforming competitors like Gemini Thinking and Grok-2.
🔎 The Road Ahead
While Deep Research marks a step forward in AI-driven research, its effectiveness in real-world scenarios remains to be seen. As OpenAI refines the tool, users will need to assess its accuracy and reliability for critical decision-making.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON IT
🚨 Hundreds of Companies Blocking DeepSeek Over China Data Risks
DeepSeek made waves in the U.S. this week, climbing to the top of the Apple and Play stores and even landing on major cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure.
Growing Popularity and Adoption: DeepSeek, a Chinese AI chatbot, has gained significant traction in the U.S., topping the Apple and Play stores. Major cloud providers, including Microsoft, have also begun offering the service on their platforms.
Widespread Restrictions Over Security Risks: Despite its rapid adoption, hundreds of companies—particularly those with government affiliations—have chosen to block DeepSeek. According to Bloomberg, cybersecurity firms Armis and Netskope have raised concerns about potential data exposure to the Chinese government.
Legal and Governmental Bans: Beyond private sector concerns, the chatbot is facing restrictions from legal and government entities. Bloomberg Law reports that San Francisco-based law firm Fox Rothschild has blocked DeepSeek. Meanwhile, the Pentagon recently implemented a ban, following a similar move by the U.S. Navy last week.
Data Storage Raises Compliance Issues: DeepSeek’s privacy policy states that all user data is stored in China, where local regulations require companies to provide access to intelligence agencies upon request. This has contributed to growing concerns over compliance with data protection and national security policies.

DeepSeek Founder Liang Wenfeng Welcomed as a Hero in China
DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng received a warm reception in Guangdong, his home province, as he returned for the Lunar New Year. Locals celebrated his achievements, recognizing his contributions to AI and China's tech landscape.
Wenfeng, now a billionaire at 40, made his fortune through his hedge fund, High-Flyer, before launching DeepSeek.
His company’s breakthrough research showed that powerful AI models could be built with fewer and less advanced Nvidia chips—a crucial finding amid China’s chip supply restrictions.
Residents of his hometown recall him as a top student, math whiz, and football enthusiast, with a deep passion for comic books.
A resident told the Financial Times: “We all grew up in this village. We’re very proud of him.”
As DeepSeek continues to make strides in AI, Wenfeng’s influence in China’s tech sector is only expected to grow. His work could play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s AI development amid global hardware constraints.
📢 EU Cracks Down on High-Risk AI
The EU’s AI Act is officially in motion! As of February 2, AI systems posing "unacceptable risk" are now banned across the bloc.
Here’s what’s prohibited:
AI for social scoring or crime prediction based on appearance.
AI that manipulates decisions or exploits vulnerabilities.
AI that tracks emotions at work or school.
AI that scrapes facial recognition data from the web.
🚨 What’s next? While companies must comply now, enforcement and fines (up to €35M or 7% of revenue) won’t kick in until August. The EU will also provide more regulatory clarity later this year.
Big tech is watching closely—Meta, Apple, and Mistral skipped the voluntary AI Pact, while Amazon, Google, and OpenAI signed on.
