Hey friends,

For most of the modern sales era, there was a fairly reliable way to grow pipeline: add more people.

Need more outbound? Hire more SDRs. Want to cover more accounts? Add more reps. Need more activity? Buy more data, build more sequences, and give the team a bigger number to hit.

For years, the underlying equation barely changed: More sales capacity required more sales headcount.

AI is starting to break that equation.

A prospecting agent can research thousands of accounts, watch for buying signals, enrich CRM records, prioritize leads, draft outreach, and follow up when someone engages. Conversation intelligence can turn calls into structured data, while forecasting systems continuously reassess which deals are actually moving.

None of that is particularly surprising anymore. What makes this moment interesting is what is happening on the other side of the transaction. Buyers have AI too.

So we are heading toward an unusual situation: selling is becoming more scalable at exactly the moment buying is becoming more self-directed.

That creates a problem.

If every company can research more accounts, personalize more messages, and generate more outreach at almost no marginal cost, simply doing more stops being much of an advantage. In fact, it may create the opposite effect. More sellers generate more noise, buyers get better at filtering it, and attention becomes harder to earn.

Which is why I don't think the interesting future of sales is millions of AI SDRs sending emails to millions of AI buying agents.

The bigger shift is underneath all of that.

Sales is moving from a labor-intensive activity engine toward an intelligence and orchestration system, where the advantage comes from knowing which accounts matter, when to engage, what the buyer actually needs, and when a human can meaningfully change the outcome.

And that raises a much more interesting question for today's edition:

When AI can handle much of the work around selling, what is a great salesperson actually for?

In today’s edition, we’ll explore:

  • Why the traditional sales funnel is becoming an intelligence loop

  • What happens when prospecting, research, qualification, outreach, and follow-up become machine-scalable

  • Why more sales activity may actually make selling harder

  • The five layers of the AI Revenue Loop

  • Where the economic value of AI in sales is likely to accumulate

  • What Salesforce, Salesloft, Rox, 11x, Artisan, and others reveal about the emerging market

  • Where founders should look beyond the crowded AI SDR category

  • Why judgment, trust, discovery, and deal strategy become more valuable as execution gets cheaper

  • What the sales organization of the next decade could look like
